  • Presale tips and tricks to make your client's business more attractive to a potential acquirer including real life case studies based on our experience.

  • Deal structuring in today's economic environment such as cash consideration or deferred consideration on the sale.

  • Insights on the process and costs related to a successful transaction.

Furthermore, the presentation will also focus on various tax strategies that are extremely important when assisting with the sale of your client's business, including (but not limited to):

  • Multiplication of the lifetime capital gains exemption and the traps that can occur.

  • Safe income planning and how it is relevant in the context of a sale transaction - including a brief summary of the new CRA positions.

  • Other tax planning opportunities such as 84.1 planning, butterfly transactions and purification strategies.

Prior to HSP, he was a corporate finance partner at an accounting firm where he led the sale of 30 companies. He started his career as a commercial banker financing over $200MM of buy/sell, MBO and sub-debt transactions with Roynat Capital, a division of Scotiabank.

Alex is heavily involved in the tax community and is a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation (CTF) where he has published articles for the CTF and presented at various events for the CTF.

In addition, Alex has also presented at events for CPA Ontario, accounting groups and other industry specific events. He also facilitates the CPA Canada In-depth tax course.
