Course Description

In this live and interactive webinar, we will examine current research to understand psychological safety for organizations and teams better. We will then introduce ways to assess and improve psychological safety for both organizations and teams. Lastly, we will introduce transformative technologies and examine their ethical implications.

Part 1: Professional Ethics: Improving Psychological Safety in the Workplace (2.0 hrs)

Psychological safety is a belief that you are free to share your thoughts and not be punished for speaking your mind. It is an important area of research in the field of organizational behaviour. Current research has shown that organizations and teams with higher psychological safety are more productive, creative, and happier. And teams and organizations that have higher psychological safety make better and more ethical decisions.

However, current research also shows that psychological safety is fragile within organizations and teams. Critical events such as new leadership, organizational strategy changes, and external situations (such as a pandemic) can adversely affect an organization’s psychological safety.

Part 2: Professional Ethics and Transformative Technology (2.0hrs)

Transformative technologies are defined as tech that can facilitate mental health, emotional wellbeing, and enhanced human thriving. These have also been less optimistically labelled as disruptive innovation/technology.

Today, we are beginning to feel the impacts of three transformative technologies within our society:

  1. Big data
  2. Artificial intelligence
  3. Blockchain and cryptocurrency

These transformative technologies have the potential to help us in our day-to-day lives. However, there are significant ethical implications to these technologies for:
  • Privacy
  • Professional judgement/critical thinking
  • Environment, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG)
