Course Description

Many people end up letting their name stand to be an executor for someone without having the first clue about what they are getting themselves into.

All participants will also receive the most comprehensive executor duties checklist that they have ever seen that is customized for Ontario. We will cover:

  1. Executor compensation
  2. The risks of being an executor and ways to lessen those risks
  3. The alternatives to acting as an executor
  4. Ways to mitigate the burden placed on an executor
  5. Ways to attempt to preserve family harmony among beneficiaries

Jim Kibble

Jim Kibble is an independent fee-only estate planner (i.e. sells no insurance or investment products) and founder of Ontario Estate Consulting Solutions Inc. with offices in New Hamburg, Kitchener, and Hamilton. He holds credentials as a chartered accountant, trust and estate practitioner, and certified executor advisor.

Jim is also the resident estate planner at Henry Walser Funeral Home Ltd. in Kitchener, where he assists families with estate planning and estate administration matters following the loss of a loved one.

Jim's community involvement includes the Rotary Club of Kitchener Westmount, Kitchener-Consestoga Probus Club, Country Hills Church, Waterloo-Wellington Estate Planning Council, Estate Planning Council of Canada, Canadian Association of Farm Advisors and the K-W Racquet Club. Jim enjoys doubles squash and leads a music program for over 20 seniors.

Debbie Stanley

Debbie Stanley is the founder of ETP Canada, a boutique firm that assists Executors with the administration of an estate, ETP Canada also acts as a Professional Executor for clients. Debbie’s vision for making the estate process easier for families has been recognized several times. She was awarded the 2017 Rhyze Award by Innovation Guelph recognizing local female entrepreneurs who exemplified ingenuity, passion, and perseverance. In 2019, ETP Canada was awarded the Emerging Business of the year by the Guelph Chamber of Commerce. Debbie’s passion for helping others shows both in her business and personal life. She is the founding chair of the Guelph Estate Planning Council, the founding member of the Guelph Women’s Leadership Group, a board member of Chalmers Community Services, a board member of Guelph Independent Living, and a committee member for Black Tie Bingo with the Guelph General Hospital.
